A Heidi Knight Original combines a true photographic likeness with the depth, texture, and presence of fine art.
Each commissioned portrait is created as a mixed-media work on archival canvas and hand-finished in oils and acrylics. No two are alike.
The result is not simply a portrait of someone you love. It is an original work of art that belongs to your family alone.
The portrait decides
Not every portrait should be the same size.
Some images need scale to carry the presence of the person in them. Others are more intimate and become more powerful because of it. The size of a Heidi Knight Original is chosen for the portrait itself, rather than simply to fill a particular wall.
Made for the person, not the house
A piece made to fit one house is furniture. This is not that. Your family will move, renovate, repaint, and eventually pass this along to someone who lives somewhere you have never seen, and it will still be the right piece, because it was built around the people in it rather than the address they had the year it was made.
The scale a commission can reach
Originals may begin with an intimate portrait and extend to statement-scale artwork spanning 60, 80, or even 100 inches, including multi-panel commissions and select pieces created on Italian leather.

Long before I created Originals for clients, I created artwork of my own family for our home.
As a mother, I know how quickly childhood changes. I wanted more than photographs stored away somewhere. I wanted artwork of the people I love where I could see and enjoy it every day.
That desire for my own family became the foundation of the work I create today.
